1 Announcement: BRAUP election on October 21 and 22

Announcement

regarding the election of the works council for the general university staff of the University of Vienna.

1. Eighteen members are to be elected to the works council for the general university staff.

2. The list of eligible voters is available for inspection by all employees working at the institution alongside a printout of the 1974 Election Regulations (Regulation of the Federal Minister for Social Administration of May 22, 1974, Federal Law Gazette No. 319) at the office of the works council for general university staff (Universitätsring 1, 1010 Vienna).

3. Objections to the list of voters may be submitted by any employee employed by the company who is eligible to vote to the chair of the election committee by October 6, 2025; objections submitted after this date will not be considered.

4. Nominations, which must clearly identify the candidates, must be submitted in writing to a member of the election committee by October 7, 2025, following the announcement of the election. Nominations submitted after this date will not be considered. Each nomination must contain a list of no more than twice as many candidates as there are members to be elected to the works council. A nomination is only valid if it is signed by at least 22 employees. However, only up to 11 signatures from candidates will be counted toward the required number of signatures. One of the signatories of the nomination must be listed as its representative. The nomination must be given a distinctive name (faction name, list name).

5. The nominations approved for the election will be available for inspection by those eligible to vote at the office of the works council for general university staff (Universitätsring 1, 1010 Vienna) from October 17, 2025.

6. Voting will take place on October 21 and 22, 2025.

  • On October 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Courtyard 8 (former soup bar) of the main university building, 1010 Vienna, Universitätsring 1.
  • On October 22, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the CeMESS meeting room, ground floor (0.002) of the University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB), 1030 Vienna, Djerassiplatz 1.
  • On October 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Seminar Room 5 in Courtyard 7.1 on the University of Vienna campus (Altes AKH), 1090 Vienna, Alser Strasse 4.
  • In addition, all employees will be given the opportunity to exercise their right to vote by postal ballot.

7. Only votes cast for a nomination that is eligible for election are valid. The nomination must be marked on the ballot paper with a cross or in a clear manner, or by indicating one or more candidates. Votes are cast by the voter placing the completed ballot paper in an empty, unmarked envelope in the voting booth. This envelope is then placed unopened in the ballot box in front of the election officer.

8. A standard ballot paper is provided for voting.

9. Voters who are unable to cast their vote in person on election day(s) due to vacation, parental leave, military/civilian service, illness, the nature of their profession, or other important personal reasons may apply for a ballot card from now until October 13, 2025, preferably by email to braup.wahl2025@univie.ac.at. Applications can also be made directly to the chair of the election committee.
If a postal ballot is issued, the eligible voter must place the ballot paper in the envelope (ballot envelope) provided or sent by the election committee, which must not bear any inscription or mark that could identify the voter, place this envelope, closed, together with the absentee ballot issued by the election committee in a letter envelope, and then send this sealed envelope by post to the election committee. The ballot must be sent in time to ensure that the election envelope reaches the election committee by 5:00 p.m. on October 22, 2025, at the latest. Ballots without a voting card or ballots that arrive late are invalid.

Even after a ballot card has been issued, the eligible voter remains entitled to cast their vote in person, but only if they bring the ballot card issued to them and hand it over to the election committee.

10. The members of the election committee are:

1. Christian Albert (chairman)

2. Christoph Gnant

3. Barbara Schaffer

Substitute members:

1. Norbert Irnberger

2. Rainer Jantscher

3. Richard Rode

4. Markus Ristic (co-opted)

On behalf of the election committee:
